You may be fighting a battle against the odds today. If so, be comforted. So were the children of Israel overwhelmed by their enemies in the days of Deborah. She was a prophetess who ruled them from under a tree, and judged the people of Israel. In Deborah’s day, her people were harassed and controlled by the king of Canaan who possessed 900 iron chariots. First of all, the Israelites were being led by a woman, which in that time was quite strange, and they were up against a much stronger and well-equipped foe. However, when God is on your side, the odds cannot dictate your chances. Not only did they defeat the Canaanites, but the captain of that army was killed by another woman, which sealed the victory, and humiliated the enemy army. After the battle, Deborah sang a song of praise to God, and in this song of worship, Deborah gives us a powerful key to remember when spiritual battles which seem to include undefeatable giants loom over us. In Judges 5:13 she sings: “The LORD made me have dominion over the mighty.” So let us argue with Paul in Romans 8:31, “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? (KJV) The odds are always for you when God comes on the scene….
