There are many cleverly devised fables around us. The devil is very clever, and he knows how to weave tales. 2 Peter 1:16 states: “For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made know unto you the power and coming of our LORD Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty” (KJV). Some translations use cunningly instead of cleverly. Foxes are considered cunning animals. Dictionary.com gives the definition of cunning as: “skill employed in a shrewd or sly manner, as in deceiving; craftiness, guile.” So we see that almost all news, dramas, citcoms, movies, commercials, and books, are nothing but cunningly devised tales or fables. Stop and think. How many reporters have actual knowledge about what they are reporting. Were they there? Were they eyewitnesses? Most are nothing but parroting what they have heard from someone else. Those in Peter’s time knew all about these cleverly devised fables. The Greek gods for example were nothing but tales made up to explain the supernatural realm in a false way. Peter, however, stated that they were eyewitnesses of the majesty of the LORD Jesus. Whose report will you believe? Be very careful what you hear and how you hear…(Mark 4:24).
