The great prophet Elijah was about to be taken to heaven in a chariot of fire. He traveled to three different cities before his departure: Bethel, Jericho, and Jordan. At each of these towns, Elijah told Elisha his servant to stay behind, but Elisha kept saying, “I will not leave you.” As they crossed the River Jordan right before the angel chariots arrived, Elijah asked Elisha what he could do for Elisha for his persistence in staying by his side. Elisha asked for a “double portion” of Elijah’s spirit to come upon him. That, my friends, is twice the miracles, and twice the power. There is something about the determination of faith to receive from God that rewards. Elisha got to see Elijah taken up into Heaven in a tornado, and the chariots and horses of fire (2 Kings 2: 1-11). He then performed 28 miracles, exactly twice Elijah’s 14 miracles, with the presence and power of God upon him. Wow…
