When God begins to answer prayer, it sometimes seems like it takes forever. Some processes have to be accomplished slowly and meticulously. It is here that our faith and patience have to work. For instance, in 2 Samuel 3:1, we read, “Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.” You see, the hearts of the people had to be changed slowly from the influence of one king to another. Sometimes human hearts cannot take too much major change at a time, or it becomes traumatic, and their mindsets cannot take the changes. Little by little, one heart at a time is sometimes the plan of God. A great military leader, Abner, was rebuked by the son of Saul, which angered him. This turned his heart to David (by God’s design) and he states in 2 Samuel 3:9&10, “So do God to Abner [himself] and more also, except, as the Lord hath sworn to David, even so I do to him; To translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beersheba” (KJV). God can do sudden miracles, but sometimes he is changing one heart at a time, one soul at a time, slowly but surely. Be patient!
