Jesus paid a price long before He went to the cross for us. He spent untold hours in prayer, sometimes praying all night (Luke 6:12). When a young child, he spent his time in the temple, hearing the Word of God, and learning to read it, while other young children were playing or running around. He was paying a price. He denied himself many worldly pursuits which would have distracted from His heavenly call. He often fasted, and although a man, kept himself from all sin. There is a price to be paid for spiritual power. It is instant obedience. Once we are baptized with the Holy Spirit, we must deny ourselves and follow Him (Matthew 16:24). When we do this and pay a price, we are considered His disciples, and will do the works that He did!
