In the days of King David, he had to fight long and hard to receive the kingdom that God had promised him. At first he had to run from King Saul whom he had once served faithfully. After Saul was killed by enemies, David had to wait until all of Israel came together to serve him as king. However, David had mighty men who had been with him through all this, and who honored him and fought for him, and knew his integrity and how God had chosen him to lead Israel. In 1 Chronicles 12:33, it states: “Of Zebulun, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, with all instruments of war, fifty thousand which could keep rank: they were not of double heart.” Again in 12:38, we see: “All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect heart…” (KJV). We who are believers, should stay in our callings, and not be jealous of those who are leading us, or desire their positions. We should also not look down upon those behind us in their understanding of God’s ways, but keep our positions (rank). If you don’t know where you stand in the body of Christ, ask God. In the military, you don’t go from a foot soldier to a general overnight. Listen to Jesus, be patient, and do not have a double heart, but be firmly focused on Him with a perfect heart of obedience. “Lord, make it so in me!”
