When we get a scripture which is referenced in both the Old and New Testaments, we need to pay attention. This is something important enough that God wants us to “get it.” In Deuteronomy 8:3 (NKJV), we read: “So he humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your father’s know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD.” Jesus reiterated this is Matthew 4:4, so that we understand that it is a powerful nugget of truth. We can stuff our mouths all day, and still hunger in our souls for the meaning to our existence. That hunger will drive some to cover their yearning for truth up with fleshly pursuits, such as sex, booze, drugs, and entertainment. They stuff their heads with games, media, music, the lust for money, or power, or all of the above at one time. Instead of getting quiet and thinking, they get loud to cover up the emptiness of their hearts and minds. Jesus said the most wonderful thing in Matthew 11:28 (NKJV): “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” You will find what you are really hungry for in the Word of the Living God. Try some, you’ll like it!
