There is wisdom in God’s Word that will keep you out of a whole lot of trouble. In our hurry-up world, here is one of the most profitable scriptures: “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:” (James 1:19, KJV). Our minds are so bombarded with stimulus that it is hard to slow down enough to LISTEN to others, much less God. A major key to walking in the Spirit, is to LISTEN INTENTLY to the voice of God within us, instead of media, music, entertainment, and other people. Come on! We know there is a lot of noise in our world, so covet the quiet times. Get up early, or lie in bed like King David, who heard God and wrote: “Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still” (Psalms 4:4, KJV). Sometimes the best listening is done in the quiet of night when others are sleeping. Other than listening, it is good to grab ahold of your tongue and be slow to speak. Think how much trouble this will keep you away from! Lastly, get angry slowly, because a quick temper can land you in a heap of doo doo. Your tongue will say things you really did not want to share, and will not profit, but harm others. Pretend you are a southerner, and speak slowly, don’t get angry quickly, and use your ears more than your mouth!
